Safari itinerary
Day 1: Altezza Travel
We will start the 9 days safari tour in Tanzania by picking you up at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), where you will be met by an Altezza Travel agent and transferred to your accommodation as part of the package. The hotel will give all of the necessities for a pleasant visit, including nice rooms, hot water, kind personnel, a swimming pool, and an Internet connection. In the evening, you will get a briefing from our management, who will also ensure that you are prepared to begin the ascent. Please keep in mind that check-in begins at 2:00 PM.
- Accommodation: Aishi Machame Hotel.
- Meals: Excluded.
Day 2: Drop off at a high altitude and hike to Shira 1 camp
A guide and a mountain support team will meet you at the hotel in the morning to give you another briefing, following which you will journey by car (about 3-4 hours) to Kilimanjaro National Park’s western entrance: Londorossi Gate (2,200 m). Following the brief formalities of obtaining climbing permits and registering with the search and rescue agency, the party ascends by off-road vehicles to their drop-off site (reaching 3,500 meters). For the first time, you can enjoy the beautiful vistas of the Shira Plateau from here. The path from your drop-off location to your first high-altitude camp, Shira 1, has a minor altitude rise but is not physically demanding. As a result, you will be able to properly begin the acclimatization process. When you arrive at the camp, our skilled mountain crew will set up tents and cook meals for you.
Because this is your first day at this altitude, it is highly suggested that you follow the following guidelines from now on: abstain from alcohol and caffeine Drink more than 4 liters of bottled water per day (little by little, regularly), and take a Diamox tablet to deal with altitude sickness symptoms. Diamox is often taken in the morning before beginning an ascent to alleviate the pain associated with altitude sickness. In case of allergies, we suggest that you visit your doctor before your travel. You may have pain at night as a result of acclimation to high altitude: your body receives less oxygen than during the day due to a drop in your awake breathing pattern. Taking altitude into consideration, you may begin to feel nauseous and have a headache. Pay attention to your own body and notify your guide if you experience any altitude sickness symptoms. Elevation change: Lemosho Glades (3,500 m) — Shira 1 Camp (3,505 m) 5 km hiking distance Hiking time: 1 to 2 hours. End of the second day of the 9 days safari tour in Tanzania.
- Accommodation: The North Face VE-25 tents.
- Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, dinner.
Day 3: Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp trekking
Leaving Shira 1 Camp (3,505 m) and making a short hike to the second high-altitude camp, Shira 2 Camp (3,900 m). This walk is not tough, and you will have the opportunity to appreciate stunning views of Africa as well as the distinctive flora of Kilimanjaro and the surrounding region. Weather permitting, Shira 2 Camp is the greatest site on the tour to view Mount Meru (Africa’s fifth-highest peak). When you reach the camp, you will have lunch, and following a two-hour break, everyone will go on a 200-meter altitude increase acclimatization climb to Lava Tower Camp.
Note: The acclimatization hike is a simple walk with a minor altitude rise to expedite the acclimatization process. Acclimatization treks should be taken seriously. They improve your chances of summiting Kilimanjaro and protect you from the effects of altitude sickness. Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp Trekking: Elevation change: Shira 1 Camp (3,505 m) — Shira 2 Camp (3,900 m) 7 km hiking distance 3-4 hours of hiking Shira 2 Camp Acclimatization Hike: Elevation Change (3,900 m) — A destination on the route to Lava Tower (4,110 m) 2 km hiking distance Time spent hiking: 1-2 hours.
- Accommodation: The North Face VE-25 tents.
- Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, dinner.
Day 4: Trekking from Shira 2 Camp to the Lava Tower, then to Barranco Camp
After breakfast, we will start the 4th day of our 9 days safari in Tanzania, you will depart Shira 2 Camp (3,900 m) and begin your journey to the route’s pivotal point: Lava Tower (4,630 m). This segment of the route includes several ascents and descents that culminate in a camp at above 4,600 meters. It may be unpleasant and uncomfortable, but in order to completely adapt to the altitude, you must spend at least 1-2 hours here, therefore this is where you will have lunch. You will then descend to Barranco Camp (3,960 m). The iconic Barranco Wall may be seen here, which is stunning in both its vast size and steepness! You’ll be climbing it the next day, but don’t worry: it has a fairly basic hiking track. Note: If one or more people get ill, the party may forego crossing the Lava Tower and instead use the path for porters. In this situation, you would only reach a maximum height of 4,400 meters, rather than 4,630 meters. Elevation Change: Shira 2 Camp (3,900 m) — Barranco Camp (4,630 m) (3,960 m) 12 km hiking distance Time to hike: 6-8 hours.
- Accommodation: The North Face VE-25 tents.
- Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, dinner.
Day 5: Trekking from Barranco camp to Karanga camp
On the 5th day of our 9 days safari tour in Tanzania, it is advised to wake up early morning, take breakfast, and start the Barranco Wall ascent (we recommend you leave the camp as early as possible to avoid crowds of the other groups). The gorge wall hike is not tough and only takes about an hour. After the trek, relax and snap photographs in front of the Kibo volcano. Then you begin a more strenuous climb to Karanga Camp, which includes multiple ascents and descents, but don’t worry: our guides are skilled at determining the best pace for the group. When you arrive at the camp, you will be served a hot meal. After a few hours, you will have to execute an acclimatization trek in the direction of Barafu Camp, with a 200-meter altitude rise, and then descend back to the camp. Trek from Barranco to Karanga Camps: Elevation change: Barranco Camp (3,960 m) — Karanga Camp (4,035 m) 5 km hiking distance Time spent hiking: 4-5 hours Hike for acclimatization: Elevation change: Karanga Camp (4,035 m) – a destination on way to Barafu Camp (4,270 m) 2.5 km hiking distance Time spent hiking: 1-2 hours.
- Accommodation: The North Face VE-25 tents.
- Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, dinner.
Day 6: Trek from Karanga to Barafu camps
After breakfast, you continue your journey to Barafu Summit Camp (4,640 m), the starting point for a night summit of Uhuru Peak (5,895 m). Our crew will set up a camp for you ahead of time, complete with tents and sleeping bags, so you can rest. After recovering strength, you must perform an acclimatization climb to the intermediate Kosovo Summit Camp (4,800 m) and then return to Barafu Camp, where you will be given a nice meal. It is preferable to spend the balance of the day recovering and sleeping before summiting at night. Trekking from Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp: Elevation change: Barafu Camp (4,640 m) — Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) — Millennium Camp (3,820 m) 15 km hike Hiking time: 8-12 hours Acclimatization hike: elevation change: Barafu Camp (4,640 m) — Kosovo Camp (4,800 m) 6 mile hike Hiking time: 4-5 hours.

Day 7: Ascending to Uhuru Peak and descending to Millennium Camp
The nighttime departure from Barafu Camp (4,640 m) and the commencement of the Kilimanjaro summit: Uhuru Peak (5,895 m). The climb is technically basic; nonetheless, the most difficult aspect is the high altitude. Each pair of climbers will be assigned a personal guide who will monitor your physical and emotional status during the journey. You may descend to the closest glacier after successfully reaching Uhuru Peak. Then you’ll return to Barafu Camp for a 2-hour respite before continuing your descent to Millennium Camp (3,820 m). Remember that 90% of all accidents happen on the descent, including all broken arms and legs. Please keep an eye on your feet since there is a great chance of injuring your toenails. Day 8: Descend from Millennium Camp to the Mweka Gate
The camp is located in a tropical jungle. When you wake up, you will be relieved that the height has been reduced and satisfied that you have reached the pinnacle. Following a hearty breakfast, you will go to the park’s exit, Mweka Gate (1,640 m). Following your descent, the whole group will assemble to congratulate you, followed by an opportunity for you to leave your thoughts on the climb in the guestbook. Finally, we will present you with your commemorative certificates at our office and offer you transport back to the hotel.
